“Water is the most perfect traveler because when it travels it becomes the path itself!” Mehmet Murat Ildan, Turkish writer and playwright
Last week’s Friday Photo featured an aerial view of Lake Eikesdalsvatnet in Norway. Today we are taking Ildan’s advice to follow the water.
The Vikeelva River is the drainage for the valley. In the distance, you can barely make out the river emptying into the Eikesdalsvatnet. It’s highlighted in the red rectangle.

The Shot
Our group made our way closer to the lake, taking a gravel road that ended on a farmstead. Luckily, the owner understood our intentions and welcomed us to his picturesque lakeside property.
Just upstream of the lake, a rickety old wooden bridge crossed the Vikeelva. We set up our tripods and caught the last of the good light before the sun dropped too far below the mountain.
The day was rewarding for three reasons. Meeting the friendly farmer was one of them. The photographs were another.
Yet the greatest reward was learning to work with moody weather. By looking past the challenges and embracing the conditions, we can create images with depth, atmosphere, and emotional impact.
Thanks for looking,
